Find a Hobby You’re Good At
Think you don’t have a hobby? Think again! Don’t let that I’m not crafty enough voice in the back of your head get in the way. I promise you there is something you’re good at, and you can turn it into a work from home business!
If you have no idea where to start, or even what to do, trust me. I’ve so been there! To get ideas, you can browse Pinterest and start with a general diy search. Or, if you have a general idea, like refurbishment say, search that.
If you are still stuck and don’t know where to start, jot down things that you love, or maybe things you’ve always wanted.
For example, I make Top Knots. How did I come up with that? Well, I always wanted to get them for my baby girl, but I only ever saw the same five prints at every boutique and they always sold out fast. I also wanted to be able to match her, but they only came in baby and toddler size. That’s when I decided well, why not make them?
It’s something I love, and something I enjoy making and just overall have fun doing. Basically, it’s a win win!
How to Transform Your Hobby into a Business
Let me start off by saying that this advice is for those of you who are just starting out, or thinking about starting out, and don’t have a lot of money to invest.
The way I look at is this: if you’re just starting out, you probably don’t have much of an audience besides maybe your family and friends. So why dig yourself a hole and spend a bunch of money you don’t have? The answer is, you don’t.
We live in such a cool era of technology and social media platforms that allow people to make a living from their smartphone. How cool!
That is why I want you to utilize your free options, like Facebook.
Build a group for your business. Post your products in there. People can buy via PayPal or straight from FB Messenger (yep, you can pay people via Facebook too!). It’s so easy and convenient , because the majority of people are on Facebook all day long anyway!
I for one, do most of my shopping through Facebook. Thanks to the rabbit hole that is Lularoe, I am all to often sucked into a live video and end up 2 hours deep into a sale of things I don’t need. 🤷🏻♀️
The Basics You Should Invest In
I want you to utilize free platforms. I don’t want you to spend money on things like a $30+ a month Shopify subscription. There are however things you should invest in.
My one, super important piece of advice is to have your own website. Invest in a domain and hosting, and you will have complete ownership and freedom over your site. One of the cool things about having your own site is that it gives you the opportunity to earn passive income.
Below I’ve included a super simple checklist so you know exactly what you need to build a site that you own.
- Domain Name (check out namecheap, google, or godaddy)
- *Hosting (I highly recommend *Siteground, their rates are so affordable and customer service is out of this world)
- WordPress (.org NOT .com!!)

Registering Your Business
When it comes to registering a business name and all that fun stuff, requirements and fees vary by state, so I don’t want to get into any details there. For more information on that, all you have to do is type “register a business in _____” (fill in the blank with your state) in google and the information will be provided! Most counties also have teams available for consultations and they will help you understand the process, as well as make sure you set up everything you need!
Starting a business doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. There’s always room for improvement as your business grows. Websites are not just for bloggers, and it doesn’t have to be difficult to build one! Another reason I recommend *Siteground so much is because their 24/7 I’ve customer support is so amazing that I’ve never waited a full minute before being helped! There are so many free resources at your disposal. If you’re reading this and still have questions, feel free to comment or email me and I’d be happy to help you out! Seriously, it’s what I’m here for.
